Enough Evidence

Evidence Based PracticeThe Lord set a time and said, “Tomorrow the Lord will do this in the land.”And the next day the Lord did it: All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died. Pharaoh investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go. (Exodus 9:5-7)

What would convince you to turn your life over to the Lord and to surrender to His will. Sometimes we say. “Until I see enough evidence, I will not believe.” But not even the clearest evidence can convince you, if your heart is unyielding. Often you have already decided not to believe regardless of the evidence. Deep down you already know the truth. But you stubbornly refuse to believe, not because there is not enough evidence, for to see the objective proof is to admit that you are wrong. That’s where the trouble is: your pride is the main stumbling block. You rationalize and you come up with all sorts of arguments or questions to cover up the real problem, which is your pride. If you will only humble yourself, even a slim evidence will convince you. But because you are proud, a ton of evidence is never enough for you. Maybe it’s time for you to be honest with yourself. Is it really the lack of evidence or are you just proud to admit that you are wrong. Humble yourself before the Lord. Be willing to yield. Then see the evidence again. You will be surprised to see that there is really enough evidence to believe in God and in what He says. Sure it may not be a hundred percent, but it’s beyond reasonable doubt. And for someone who is humble, that’s enough proof already.
