Teaching Outline:

Intro

There are so many needs in the world today. How can the church meet all these needs? The Bible gives us a principle: “Discern the need before you meet the need.” This is the need behind the need. So how do we discern the need?

There are two criteria…

  1. No one else can meet the need (vv.3-8,16).
  2. The person really deserves to be helped (vv.9-15).

Conclusion

The church must learn to be responsible for legitimate needs among God’s people. But she must also learn to discern if a need is a legitimate need. Remember, discern the need before you meet the need.
