Thoughts:

  1. Love is the most misunderstood and misused word in the church.
  2. Everyone wants to talk about love but they’re often just talking about human love.
  3. Even leaders are prone to use the “love” word without truly understanding what it means. (e.g. I love my ministry)
  4. Often what they refer to is “human love.” Love that is more akin to “like” or “preference,” i.e. something that appeals to my feelings or emotions. (e.g. I love my church)
  5. God wants leaders to be motivated by love. But not the human kind. He wants us to be motivate by His love for His people.
  6. Paul reveals his love for the Philippians in chapter 1:3-11. But it’s not the human kind of “love”. It’s a love that is motivated by the love of God for His people.
  7. Your kind of love defines your ministry. It can either make you or break you. We must choose wisely.
  8. Those who are motivated by a human kind of love will find themselves on a forked road. Ministry will always bring us to that forked road.
  9. A human kind of love may motivate us for awhile but it will break us in the end, because it is not strong enough. It will fail us on the forked road.
  10. What we need is God’s kind of love for His people. Remember, your kind of love defines your ministry. It can either make you or break you. Choose God’s kind of love starting today. Let’s God’s love flow.
