Thoughts:
- There has been a lot of progress in the area of leadership even in the church.
- Many today are using business principles and ideas in governing/leading the church.
- This has resulted in tremendous accomplishments (e.g. mega churches, etc.) and also multitude of problems (e.g. conflicts between pastors and boards, church splits, etc.).
- As we experience more success in terms of results, we must not forget that we are first of all the people of God. First we are brothers, before we are leaders.
- The apostle Paul shows us by example this very important principle in Ephesians 6:21-24.
- We can prioritize our relationships even in the midst of our leadership by a) Prioritizing mutual disclosure (vv.21-22), and b) Prioritizing mutual feedback (vv.23-24).
- We must not sacrifice our relationships for the sake of leadership. Remember, before we are leaders, we are first brothers. Let’s remain that way.
