Dreaming of a Bigger Church?

Text: Ephesians 3:14-21

Truth: Only God by His Spirit can reveal to us the true magnitude of the calling of God for the church.

Thrust: We must constantly pray and ask God to reveal it to us by His Spirit.

Thesis: Since only God by His Spirit can reveal to us the true magnitude of the calling of God for the church, we must constantly pray and ask God to reveal it to us by His Spirit.

Turning Point: Unless we see the bigness of God’s vision for the church, we will not understand our true calling.

Theme: Praying for God’s people

Topic: Why must we pray for the church

Title: Dreaming of a Bigger Church

Tagline: Think big.

Thoughts:

  1. Many pastors and church leaders are dreaming of a bigger church.
  2. But bigness is not just about size.
  3. What we need is a bigger vision of the purpose of the church.
  4. A truly big church is as big as God’s vision for it.
  5. Many people have great dreams about the church but it’s still quite small compared with the vision of God for His church.
  6. Paul sees a big church in his vision. But its bigness is not about its size. Its bigness is tied to the bigness of the love of God in Christ. (Eph 3:14-21)
  7. This is what he is praying for. For he knows that this kind of bigness is hidden in most people’s eyes. They are only be seeing “bigness” from a human point of view.
  8. Paul is praying earnestly that the people in Ephesus would see the big picture. And this is what we should be praying for also.
  9. Only God by His Spirit can reveal to us the true magnitude of the calling of God for the church. This is why we must constantly pray and ask God to reveal it to us by His Spirit.
  10. Unless we see the bigness of God’s vision for the church, we will not understand our true calling. Think big.
